Red is the taste like rust and paprika
the touch of heat, peeling sunburn
Smells like cranberries and sounds like rage

Pink is rasberries and fairy floss
       sounds like cash registers
the feel of a newborns fingers and toes

Orange smells like curry
and feels like an electric blanket,
                  sounds like a dying fire

Yellow is mustard seeds and chicken salt, is ticklish and giggling,
Feels like baby chick's feathers and lemon juice on a fresh cut

Green tastes like lemon sorbet and freshly mown grass,
                                                                Feels like felt material
and early morning mist, heavy fog

Blue is the wind in your hair and eyes, and the doona over your head
it sounds like pebbles and stones and flutes
is the smell of old lavender

Purple is cool metallic and sticky midnights
like lilacs and the brush of heavy wavy hair
                                like grapes and dragonfruit

Black feels like velvet
tastes like sleeping pills and licorice
sounds sardonic, like sarcasm and sighs

Brown smells like cinnamon and cedar and musk
feels splinters and tastes of nutmeg and chocolate
feels like whooping cough and sounds the same

White is spearmint and sunshine
and dentists appoinments and under-cooked pavlova

Rainbows are jelly and coriander seeds
                        smells like helium
they feel like corn starch and lukewarm water
and joint hands and group hugs
I tried to capture colour for the blind.
Because they cannot see (duh) you cannot describe one colour as or like another. You cannot say orange is the colour of oranges because they have never seen an orange (assuming they've been blind since birth). You have to appeal to their other senses like smell and taste etc., even if it doesn't visually match up (eg. purple is cool metal, but metal itself is grey). I tried to do this by finding things that described a colour but weren't visually the colour itself, but had some trouble (brown).

I feel I described green and purple and black the best. White is incredibly hard to feel, and it was near impossible to smell a rainbow (not literally!!!)
So if you have any suggestions or additions PLEASE tell me.
Critiques very welcome.

Very nice wording--I especially loved the Blue's description.

Oh bugger! I shan't critique it, because I haven't the faintest idea how to go about it and because I'll be very 'ooh it's just fourteen out of ten' and slower to post it than a wet week. So... :cuddle:

:happycry: Lovely. If I were blind, I'd definitely have someone read this poem to me.
